Do unsigned Artist understand the Producer's role in making a song??

What's good RTMN members!! Let's talk about the role of the artist and the producer.

Me myself, I would categorize myself as a beat maker that is trying to become a "producer". From my point of view, I'm tired of just making beats. I am more interested in direction of a song. Believe it or not, I've run into cats that don't have the knowledge to recognize the difference between the verse and the hook on a beat or know when to compliment the beat during change up's or transitions.

Sometimes when I send a beat to someone and they send it back with their lyrics, I think it's my duty to step in and make certain suggestions to improve the song if necessary . Isn't that what I'm supposed to do if I'm trying to call myself a producer?? From that point, I would expect the artist to understand that this process is done only to make corrections.

Don't get me wrong, there are some artist out there that can formulate complete songs without direction. But sometimes I feel the artist and the producer need to be on the same page. If a song turns out wack, part of the blame should be directed toward the producer.

What do yall think??

I would have to agree..I feel like that producer should be in the studio with the artist. Just like if you write a song for someone you should atleast be in the studio with the artist so the song turns out the way you invision it. Thats how they do it in the big league. But I totally agree with you. But some people make beats and really dont care how the artist song turns out as long as they got they money. So I guess you can look at it from that prespective. But twice again I agree..lol!!

I have to agree with the both of you. I will not mention any names, but I have received a few songs that were submitted to be posted on my website that didn't sound very professional. I'll think to myself, man , the beat is hot, but the artist didn't take the time to perfect their delivery. You cant just take a hot beat and throw some words on top and expect it to work. I think the artist and the producer should work together as well. If they do, it will make the project much more successful. Personally, I think the lyrics should be made to work with the beat, it will go together better like that, than if you were to just have some lyrics, and then get the beat and try to throw it on top. If you do have lyrics already, and you get the beat afterwards, then some changes are going to have to be made to make the song work, period. Unless you are that slick with your delivery, there is no getting around that in my opinion. I would love to see what others have to say about this.....good convo starter RCummins.

Well being that I am a Recording Artist & I produce all my own music & beats...

I look at the Songwriter more as a producer. The lyrics give the song more of the direction, but I feel the producers input comes in on the tracks energy, the final engineering and the ability to make it a hit record.

Nowadays beat makers assume they are producer making pointless and indirect records. 808's snare rolls and heavy drops have muffled our ears... lol

My opinion...

Me I come from a different species of producer where I let the lyrics, beats and energy produce it's self.

For the one who listen to my music on my page can tell I'm not a "hyper" recording artist. I'm your calm steady flow type, replacing a overstimulated flow with a calm verbal attraction...

If that makes since...
