History: Early in Double XL's career, a young Mc had dropped his debut album Me vs. Me not reaching its potential due to lack of a promotional budget, just won the Roc The Mic Tour battle minutes before Jay-z and 50 Cent were set to hit the stage(no call back from MTV or Def Jam to compete in the finals for a Rocafella Records contract), and a host Mcs ready to follow his lead wondering what the next move would be awaiting their leaders decision. The independent state of mind was born and soon after Double XL and his rebel followers took on name Hood Platinum. The original two volumes of the mixtape were created by XL's cousin in regular mixtape fashion, Double XL reinvented the idea to cross promote his crew along with the most popular unsigned as well as signed artists from the area. Hood Platinum 3 marked the first official release as the crew, label and movement .
Result: DJ Bee was so impressed with the plan and grind he agreed to host the CD. The cd sold 1000 copies in a week and the first 200 copies came with the first edition of The League. Hood Platinum 3 alone goes down as one most enjoyed classic VA mixtape Cds of its time.
Future: Its been several years since the DJ Hipp hosted Hood Platinum 4, Double XL plans to finally put the finishing touches on Hood Platinum 5 The Mixtape with the same format including any talented DMV artists that is Platinum in their Hood! XL also plans to release the whole Hood Platinum series online.
