Actions speak louder than words for Rick Ross, who, after laying low after a still-unidentified gunman targeted him in a drive-by shooting in Fort Lauderdale two weeks ago, made a big statement on the Grammys red carpet, dressed to the nines in a tuxedo, grateful not only for life, but being recognized for his work. Fans definitely took notice.
“Feel good to be here,” Ross told MTV News’ Sway Calloway. "[God Forgives] was a long time in the works. I took my time with that album I put a lot into it. A lot of special collaborations — from Andre 3000, as well as my MMG cohorts, [and it was] Grammy-nominated for album of the year, it's amazing.
Sway then asked Ross the question everyone has wanted to ask since the attempt on his life, namely about the police's on-going investigation: “Any new developments?”
“Not at all, not at all,” Ross said. “No suspects. We not here to speculate on those suspects. I’m just staying positive, I’m moving forward and I’m just staying on top of my game. "You most definitely gotta make some adjustments, but at the same time I'ma live my life and I'ma do what I love to do, and that's make music."
As is always the case when there’s an update of this magnitude, fans took to Twitter to express their feelings about Ross’ first words since the shooting.
“I really wanna hug Rick Ross like that would be so awesome I'd probably bounce off damn,” tweeted @ohheyytav, while another fan, @Ebs_Supreme focused on the music, tweeting, “If I started listening to Rick Ross now sleep will be a myth.” Other female fans focused on the MMG Bawse’s sharp tux, like @MMGindi, who wrote, “Rick Ross look good in his tux going to the Grammys ,” while @Brie_MONEYBags provided a bit of thirst, writing, “I really really seriously love Rick Ross. He can have all of me! Lbvs.”
Another fan, @Ntelig3nt, who is apparently an artist himself, made it known what he’d do if he’d been the one who’d faced a hail of gunfire: “If somebody shot at me like they did Rick Ross, all my concerts would be skyped from my living room. You won't get a 2nd chance to shoot me.”
Fans may be a bit reluctant to move forward after such a life-threatening incident, but the “Hold Me Back” MC can’t stop and won’t stop. “You most definitely gotta make some adjustments, but at the same time, I’m a live my life and I’m a do what I love to do and that’s make music,” Ross said.
