CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A smell of gasoline forced Chesapeake Police to remove employees and customers from a store following a crash Wednesday.
A sport utility vehicle slammed into the 7-Eleven located in the 4000 block of Bainbridge Boulevard just after 6 a.m., shattering windows and damaging the brick structure. No one was injured in the crash.
Sgt. Charles Thiebaud with the Chesapeake Police Department said the driver of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe accidentally put her vehicle into drive instead of reverse after leaving the store. Alcohol and drug use were not factores in the crash.
WAVY News crews on scene reported a smell of gasoline inside the building prompted police to remove those inside. There is no word what could be causing the smell at this time.
The 7-Eleven will be closed until further notice and the crash remains under investigation.
